Weaving a Tapestry of Community Life

The Baha’i community in Hawaii is hosting an exciting art show entitled “Weaving a Tapestry of Community Life” from November 2024 to May 2025 at the National Baha’i Center in Honolulu, Nuʻuanu Valley. This unique art show invites artists to explore and express universal values such as unity, cooperation, love, justice, harmony, and community building within the theme of weaving a tapestry of community life.

The concept of weaving is significant in the Baha’i faith as itizes the process of building unity in diversity. Just as individual strands come together to form something stronger, the whole draws on the contributions of each individual strand. This art show aims to showcase the diverse talent within the Baha’i community and beyond, while also promoting the values and principles of unity and community building.

Artists are invited to submit a wide range of artworks including fiber arts, weaving, ceramics, digital formats, drawings, jewelry, metal, oil, pastels, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, watercolors, woodwork, and videos. Each artwork should reflect the theme of weaving a tapestry of community life and express the universal values promoted by the Baha’i faith.

The submission deadline for artwork is November 1, 2024, with the in-person Opening Reception and Launch of the Online Gallery taking place on November 8, 2024. The art show will also feature an In-person Interfaith Reception on February 8, 2025, and a Closing Reception on May 9, 2025.

Artists are encouraged to share a quotation that inspired them or one they wish to accompany their work. By submitting their artwork, artists give permission for their pieces to be displayed at the National Bahá’í Center and on the Hawaiʻi Bahá’i website. They also agree for their contact information to be displayed with their artwork.

Artwork can be submitted online or brought in person to the National Bahá’i Center. All shipped artwork must be securely packaged and include paid return shipping labels. Two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang with screw eyes and picture hanging wire installed. Watercolors, drawings, prints, or any works on paper must be framed under glass or plastic.

The Baha’i community reserves the right to review and potentially return artwork that does not align with the spirit of the show. This art show provides a wonderful opportunity for artists to showcase their work, express universal values, and contribute to the weaving of a tapestry of community life.
